TRACKLIST

ABOUT EACH SONG

Taste
“Taste” is the first track off of Sabrina Carpenter’s sixth studio album, Short n’ Sweet. It was released as the highly anticipated third single from the album. Disco-infused & irresistibly danceable, “Taste” serves as the album’s opener, layering risqué innuendos with revenge and betrayal, stating that even if he’s cheating, she’ll allow it as he’s always got the taste of her on his lips.

“So, “Taste” is one of my favorite songs off the album and it says a lot about me and a lot about other people. I think it’s sort of poking fun of myself a little bit for my mistakes and also poking fun at the, kind of like, facepalm that is life and relationship and the, sort of, situations that it puts you in, um, and it’s just making lighthearted fun at the whole concept of, you know, people that you’ve been with moving on to other people, and, you know, I think it’s a very human thing but it’s certainly fun.”

“Taste was a very sneaky one, when I first wrote it, it was just a guitar demo vocal for six months, [and] it kinda stayed that way. But I always heard it being something bigger, and just more fun and energetic, it ended up being one of my favourite songs on the record.

I got really excited to have the incredible Jenna Ortega in the video; Dave Meyers, who directed it, made it 10 times more special and brought life to the song in a whole different way than what I had in mind when I wrote it.”

Espresso

“The song is kind of about seeing femininity as your super power, and embracing the confidence of being that bitch. Since the day I heard the song, I saw a beach atmosphere—and more specifically this kind of old school [and] modern environment. [I wanted to capture] the playfulness that I like to use throughout all of my videos. I also just wanted a pool car, to be frank.”

Please Please Please

The track captures a mix of affection, frustration, and concern. The lyrics explore the complexities of loving someone who might not always make the best decisions, and emphasize Carpenter’s desire to protect both her relationship and pride.

The track was first teased on April 11, 2024, when a 4-second snippet was played in the police car at the end of the “Espresso” music video.

“I ended the last video getting arrested, so naturally I thought it would be satisfying to start the “Please Please Please” video in jail. I liked the idea of falling in love with a convict and being shocked and embarrassed every time he commits crimes. I was sooo lucky to get Barry Keoghan in the video cause he is just magic on screen.”
