The team behind ultra-popular Netflix dance movie Work It is now re-teaming for a musical reimagining of popular storybook fantasy Alice in Wonderland. Sabrina Carpenter will star and produce.
Sabrina Carpenter will star in Alice and will also be producing under her newly launched At Last Productions banner. Carpenter previously served as an executive producer on Work It, but Alice will be the first project under the shingle.
The movie will be a contemporary take on the classic Lewis Carroll story. While details are being kept under wraps, the modern-day musical will be set against the backdrop of a music festival called “Wonderland”.
Ross Evans, who has original musical Catch the Moon set up with Dan Lin’s Rideback Pictures, will pen the original screenplay.
Along with Carpenter, Leslie Morgenstein and Elysa Dutton are producing for book-to-screen banner Alloy Entertainment. Alloy was behind Work It, and also works with the streamer on popular series You.
Carpenter, repped by Paradigm, Foundation Media and Goodman Genow, previously worked with Netflix on family film Tall Girl, with her other feature credits including 20th Century Fox’s The Hate U Give. The multihyphenate, who recently made her Broadway debut in Tina Fey’s Mean Girls musical, will next be seen in Disney+ feature Clouds, due out this month.
